Underrated K-Pop Singers #1 : Shannon Williams 샤 넌

From now on, I will be writing a post about underrated Korean singers! Keep an eye out for each issue!

Shannon Arrums Williams (Korean name: 샤넌 아름 윌리엄스), best known as simply 'Shannon', is a British-Korean idol singer born on May 26, 1998. She is currently active in South Korea under the talent company DAP Sound (division of MBK Entertainment).

Since the age of 7, Shannon has been participating in musicals while attending Sylvia Young Theatre School in the UK. She was once given the role of Cosette in the famous musical 'Les Miserables', and continued to take on this role until she was considered too 'old' to be suitable for acting for this character.

She later appeared on SBS's Star King in South Korea in 2010. On the show, everyone's jaws hung from their mouths in awe at her amazing singing and opera skills. She appeared again in 2011 with a duet with Brad Little, the male opera singer who won the Barrymore Philly Award. She later signed an exclusive contract with Core Contents Media. (The video is down below)

In 2012, she released the single album 'Day and Night' with T-ARA's Areum (ex-member) and Gun-ji from Navy NJ. In 2013, she was recruited as a new member of the Korean girl group F-ve Dolls but quickly withdrew because she wanted to be like her role idols BoA and IU and debut as a solo artist.

Debut with 'Daybreak Rain'
On December 1, 2014, she released her debut single, 'Daybreak Rain 새벽비' and even had a collaboration single with Vasco and Giriboy ('Breath 숨').

Her next single 'Why Why 왜요 왜요' was released on March 15, 2015, and following, the release of the entire album 'Eighteen'.

The album consisted of 7 tracks:
1. Why Why
Shannon shows a very cute side of her in 'Why Why', expressing love and total admiration for a man which she falls in love with. While staring at her phone all day and thinking about him at night before bed, she asks why the man is always smiling at her :)

2. I Know

3. Gossip Girl

4. 20inch

5. Hate you

6. Breath (Shannon, Vasco, Giriboy)
With Vasco and Giriboy accompanying her in this song, it talks about a man so important to a girl that it is similar to having air to breath and without him, there is no breath left in her (and she dies). A man's love is so important to a girl that is like her breath.

7. Daybreak Rain
This song talks about a woman trying to get over a man after a rough breakup and not thinking about the things that he has done so that it would not hurt her anymore. A very mature and strong side of Shannon was shown through 'Daybreak Rain'.

While Shannon shows us a very musically talented part of her on stage, she is has such a nice personality and is so cute off-stage (well, technically she was also cute when she was promoting for 'Why Why' because that was the concept)!
